French Cup: Lyon To Visit Caen

Lyon is set to meet with Caen in the quarter finals of the French Cup. Both sides will meet at Stade Michel d’Ornano, with Lyon the likely side to go through. Caen did put up a real fight in the last stage to send out Metz. Lyon defeated Montpellier to reach the last eight and they are expected to send out Caen as well to make the final four in the competition.

However, Lyon have not won their last five games in the Ligue 1. They struggled to finish 1-1 against Saint Etienne last week, despite playing at home. Mariano Diaz had opened scoring in the 19th minute and it seemed as if they would finally get a win. However, St Etienne netted through Matthieu Debuchy to ensure both sides shared the spoils.

Pressure is beginning to mount for Lyon so they would be keen on making the next stage of the French Cup to ease what’s coming their way. Hopefully they can get the better of Caen who were defeated last week by Dijon. Damien Da Silva scored an own goal and then Julio Tavares doubled Dijon’s goals from the spot. Caen are barely four points from the relegation zone. They have garnered 32 points and are 13th on the log. To put things in perspective, Lyon are fourth and have 50 points already.

Nabil Fekir will be hoping to deliver damage to Caen. He has attracted interests from numerous top sides in Europe already. He has scored 21 goals and has seven assists as well. He has won 14 Man of the Match awards already and is expected to influence the game against Caen. Caen has Ronny Rodelin who has been impressive for them. Even if he does not score a goal, he is sure to be a constant attacking threat due to his skill set. Both sides have their major players fit, but Caen will miss Youssef Ait Bennasserwhil Lyon will miss the injured Rafael da Silva.
