Brazilian fullback Rafael da Silva had been at French Ligue 1 club Lyon for five years before he left the French club football giants at the end of his contract. Two-cap Brazilian international Rafael became a Lyon player after he was forced out of Manchester United by Dutch tactician Louis Van Gaal.

The Red Devils appointed Van Gaal as their manager in the summer of 2014 and the Dutchman resumed work at the Theatre of Dreams immediately after the World Cup in Brazil where he led the Netherlands to third place.

Van Gaal was the man saddled with the responsibility to take Manchester United to the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson but he was unable to achieve anything close to winning trophies. He had just an FA Cup trophy to show for the two years spent as the Manchester United boss.

Rafael da Silva stated that Van Gaal didn’t like Brazilian players and that ultimately led to his exit from the club. In the interview conducted last year, Rafael revealed that he was informed that the ex-Ajax Amsterdam and Barcelona manager didn’t like Brazilian player and it turned out to be as revealed.

Brazilian national team player Rafael da Silva suffered in his first and only season under Van Gaal.  In summary, he was unable to continue his career at the Theatre of Dreams after spending an underwhelming first season under the new manager. He hardly featured in the starting XI under Van Gaal and the lack of playing time led to his exit from the club.

Rafael left the club several years ago but he still remains a popular figure amongst the Manchester United fans.
